Cape Bolinao Lighthouse – Brgy. Patar, Bolinao, Pangasinan (Day 1)
Brgy. Patar, located at the town of Bolinao, is about 1.5 hours drive from the town of Lucap (where the Hundred Islands group is) and is accessible by bus like Five Star, Dagupan Bus, and Victory Liner (click here). If we had not taken my friend’s SUV, we were planning to ride Victory Liner as their earliest trip is 4am and leaves by the hour.
After tackling the 30-minute rough and dusty road of Bolinao, we finally arrived at a sloping, paved path straight to Cape Bolinao Lighthouse. This gleaming cylindrical white tower stands proud overlooking Bolinao waters.
The last time I saw a lighthouse, it was sprawled dramatically in a travel magazine giving an air of lonely supremacy over the waters. When I saw Bolinao Lighthouse, the sun was scorching and it was blinding to look up the towers.
The ground around the lighthouse is well-kept and offers a quiet setting for rest and a good view as well of Patar White Beach below. Sadly though, the lighthouse was locked and the keeper was nowhere to be seen. Even the keeper’s inn beside the lighthouse was locked.
Some hundred meters before you reach the lighthouse, there is an arrow sign that points to a “Mystical Cave” which we din’t get to visit, but you might try.

Thanks to my geologist-friend, Allan Gil Fernando for the first picture of the lighthouse. Click here for his photo site.
